Job Title: Digital Hardware Engineering Lead
Location: Isle of Wight – Cowes

What you’ll be doing:
<ul>
<li>Contributing to the overall design and development of advanced radar systems, supporting the growth of new products from concept through to delivery</li>
<li>Leading the definition and integration of hardware and digital subsystem interfaces, including high-speed data, control, and calibration signals</li>
<li>Developing hardware specifications and architectures for digital components, including both bespoke and off-the-shelf solutions</li>
<li>Translating signal processing concepts into real-world solutions through modelling, simulation, and requirement definition</li>
<li>Defining and coordinating system timing strategies to enable efficient scheduling and real-time performance across subsystems</li>
<li>Supporting system-level testing, calibration, and design assurance activities to ensure product performance and reliability</li>
</ul>
Your skills and experiences: 
<ul>
<li>Strong background in Electronics Engineering, with a focus on digital high-speed and complex design</li>
<li>Experience in data analysis using tools such as MATLAB or Excel</li>
<li>Degree in electronics engineering, physics preferred but could have any STEM degree, or experience equivalent</li>
<li>Understanding of system integration and design assurance processes with a solid grasp of all hardware disciplines, with multi-disciplinary engineering knowledge</li>
<li>Previous experience working with radar systems, particularly AESAs (Active Electronically Scanned Arrays)</li>

Put yourself into a dynamic Power System Design Lead role at the forefront of real world demands in the defence industry. Alongside ensuring operational excellence for our existing products, there will be the opportunity to develop next generation radar products to counter emerging threats and contribution to our strategy for new technology. Your new day-to-day will be exciting and diverse by applying the principles of Systems Engineering across the entire engineering development lifecycle as you join in developing radar systems used by those who serve and protect us.
What you’ll be doing:
<ul>
<li>
Design of AC &amp; DC power generation and distribution systems including sizing, protection, control, and the specification of power supplies and converters. This covers design and/or specification of an electrical supply system from 440V AC to circuit board voltage rails
</li>
<li>
Motor drives, control, and positioning systems, EMC management and verification
</li>
<li>
Specification of bespoke procured hardware and management of associated sub-contractor development programmes
</li>
<li>
Design verification using a combination of simulation, analysis, and test techniques including support to EMC test houses and customer installations
</li>
<li>
Generate design documentation and technical reports and provide Electrical Engineering expertise to the project team
</li>
<li>
Adherence to Engineering Lifecycle and contributing to progress, peer, and design reviews
</li>
</ul>
Your Skills and Experiences
<ul>
<li>
Degree or equivalent in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or strongly related subject
</li>
<li>
Comprehensive/expert knowledge in one or more of the following areas;
</li>
<li>
Specification or design of electrical power systems including AC to DC conversion, distribution, regulation and conditioning including linear and switch-mode supplies
</li>
<li>
Familiarity with Electrical Safety Standards, and ideally EMC qualification to DEF STAN 59-411
</li>
<li>
Familiarity with relevant modelling tools such as Matlab/Simulink would be beneficial as would some awareness of SysML
</li>
<li>
Gathering of evidence to support acceptance, fitness for purpose, legislative requirements, and safety
</li>
<li>
A rigorous approach to the safety aspects associated with high power/high voltage equipment
</li>
</ul>
