Principal Power Systems Electrical Engineer

Our Client is seeking a Power Systems Studies Engineer to support various onshore and offshore projects on an initial 12 month contract role that has an immediate start.
EXPERIENCE:
Candidates must have proven experience as a Power Systems Studies Engineer, ideally with both offshore and onshore project exposure. Proficiency in ETAP software is essential.
JOB SCOPE:
You will be supporting various onshore and offshore projects .
These include local power generation, renewable power, including BESS or grid connections at voltages up to 220kV.
Studies will include equipment sizing, load flow, short circuit, dynamic motor starting, harmonic studies, arc flash, transient stability and protection co-ordination.
Tasks will include running power system studies and overseeing third party vendors providing power system studies for projects including EMT software

Section Engineer

Job Title: Principal Engineer – Safety
Location: Frimley, Weymouth, Bristol, Portsmouth, or Plymouth dependent on role and your personal circumstances. We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role.
Salary: Circa £60,000 depending on experience
What you’ll be doing:
<ul>
<li>Providing advice on product safety matters to project and engineering managers delivering the programmes and ensuring the safety considerations are correctly considered and implemented</li>
<li>Engaging with third parties, to review and gather supporting Design Safety Justification (DSJ) report evidence</li>
<li>Developing safety arguments, both physical and functional, using appropriate safety analyses methods, producing, and updating DSJ’s and safety management documentation using appropriate regulations and standards</li>
<li>Line Managing other safety practitioners in your team</li>
</ul>
Your skills and experiences:
Essential:
<ul>
<li>Degree level qualification (or equivalent experience) in relevant STEM subject (Engineering/ Physics/ Maths/ Science)</li>
<li>Broad knowledge of industry safety standards (such as Def Stan 00-055 and 00-056, IEC 61508 or similar)</li>
<li>Demonstrable experience in safety engineering activities in the defence, maritime or a relevant highly regulated domain</li>
</ul>
Desirable:
<ul>
<li>Good communication skills and ability to interact and manage stakeholders</li>
</ul>

The Safety &amp; Environmental team:
You will have the opportunity to work within a team of engineers and technical specialists to help us design, develop, integrate, manage, and support complex systems and combat sub-systems for in service and future submarines. Salary: Negotiable, depending on experience
What you’ll be doing:
<ul>
<li>Providing advice on product safety matters to project and engineering managers delivering the programmes and ensuring the safety considerations (DEF STAN 0055/0056) are correctly considered and implemented</li>
<li>Engaging with third parties, to review and gather supporting safety case evidence</li>
<li>Developing safety arguments, both physical and functional, using appropriate safety analysis methods e.g. (FHA/STPA/FMEA/FTA) producing and updating safety case and safety management documentation using appropriate regulations and standards</li>
<li>Line managing other safety practitioners </li>
<li>Applying ALARP principles</li>
</ul>
Your skills and experiences:
Essential:
<ul>
<li>Safety engineering processes, practices and tools</li>
<li>Clear understanding of safety engineering &amp; assurance principals</li>
<li>Experience and qualified engineers from other disciplines who display the correct behaviours and have an understanding of safety engineering, will actively be considered for this role</li>
</ul>

<ul>
<li>Good communication skills and ability to interact and manage stakeholders</li>
</ul>

The Combat Systems Safety Team:
Working closely with several engineers and technical specialists on both In-Service and In-Build Combat Systems, you will have the opportunity to work on developing safety arguments. This will include developing an understanding of new technologies and sensor systems used to support the safety arguments. We welcome people with experience of the military, defence and maritime industries, who can use their knowledge and learning to help us ensure that we provide the best products into submarines.
