At Northumbrian Water we provide both water and sewerage services to 2.7 million customers in the Northeast of England. This role focuses on our wastewater treatment service, aiming to enhance and protect the environment, whilst also improving the quality of rivers and coastal waters for the benefit of wildlife and the communities we serve. Full training will be provided to support the successful candidate to undertake the various technical aspects of this role. We seek someone with transferrable skills which would allow them to develop and succeed in this position. You'll join the team that is responsible for operating and maintaining our Wastewater service to our customers in various locations across the Northumbrian region. This team will be focusing on investigating and managing wastewater assets flow, performance and compliance, as well as supporting a number of capital schemes to replace key instrumentation. This role will include raising awareness of flow compliance and establishing a heighten level of competence across the team. This will include embedding best practice and coaching the wider team.
Working as part of a team you will be responsible for maintaining asset performance against key parameters. You would utilise data and business intelligence systems to carry out desktop investigations followed by onsite checks to verify data quality, whilst detailing findings in written reports throughout. The reports will identify and support the delivery of capital interventions and improvements.
Investigations may involve out of hours working in line with rainfall patterns to help verify actual performance. Within this role you will conduct tasks in all conditions to ensure these assets operate correctly and will undertake fault-finding investigations when issues are found. Full training will be provided to undertake the various technical aspects of this role.
About you
Our Wastewater Process Technicians carry out regular analysis of performance data, effluent quality and volume so we are looking for people who are confident with interrogating and interpreting data. No two days are the same - you will be someone who is happy working in a team or alone with minimal supervision and flexible enough to meet a varied workload, but we'll be providing you with full training to get you up to speed with our processes.
We want to speak to people who can bring a good combination of technical and interpersonal skills. Communication is essential in this role therefore we seek someone who is an excellent communicator, both verbally and written. You will be a good problem-solver allowing you to respond quickly to issues, understand the problem, and identify the best solution. You should be able to analyse and interpret data to resolve issues and optimise plant, assets and processes.
This is an excellent development opportunity for someone who enjoys taking the initiative and is willing and open to learning. It will help you to influence and shape the ways of working around flow management and compliance. This will increase your technical knowledge of how the asset base is controlled and operated to treat designated flows. This role will allow you to build up your internal and external network, particularly working with Capital Delivery to get an understanding of the procedures involved with commissioning of new instrumentation. You will get an understanding of how data is configured and the importance of accuracy for regulatory reporting.
A full driving licence is essential.
