Job Title: Control Systems Engineer

Salary: Up to £51,900 (dependent on skills and experience)
What you’ll be doing:
<ul>
<li>Develop IPMS Functional Specifications and liaise with the sub system owners to ensure the functional specifications work</li>
<li>Support stakeholder engagement with internal and external customers</li>
<li>Review supplier documentation on behalf of IPMS team to develop the functional specifications</li>
<li>Support configuration management of Platform Management System</li>
<li>Develop River Class Destroyer Controls &amp; Instrumentation solution</li>
<li>Support Sub System Leads and support delivery of all aspects of engineering deliverables</li>
<li>Create &amp; Maintain allocated IPMS Documentation as required by the project</li>
<li>Identify, manage and mitigate product safety issues across the product/service area</li>
</ul>
Your skills and experiences:
Essential:
<ul>
<li>Experience in an Engineering Functional Design discipline</li>
<li>Experience of working on large, multi-layered projects in a multi-disciplinary, matrix management environment</li>
<li>Knowledge of the engineering life cycle especially with regard to the achievement of project phase milestones. Understands the relationship between activities in different phases of the engineering lifecycle</li>
</ul>
Desirable:
<ul>
<li>Working knowledge of BAE Systems LCM processes &amp; tools</li>
<li>Experience of working on Defence projects</li>
<li>Supervisor Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) experience</li>
</ul>
Engineers at all levels should possess an academic qualification in Engineering or other related STEM subjects as well as specific (either academic or professional) qualifications and become recognised as Incorporated or Chartered Engineers through an appropriate recognised professional institution. Engineers are encouraged, and will be supported, to achieve the relevant accreditation. Preference will be given to candidates who are already professionally registered.

The Integrated Platform Management team:
The Integrated Platform Management Team are responsible for developing the control system which allows ship service to interact remotely which allows for a reduced crew requirement.

Control Systems Engineer

Job Title: Lead Mechanical Engineer – Hydraulics

Salary: Up to £60,000
What you’ll be doing:
<ul>
<li>Lead the design of hydraulic systems, sub-systems and equipment for the next generation Royal Navy submarines</li>
<li>Undertake functional design activities, modelling and analysis</li>
<li>Produce design documentation, Verification &amp; Validation evidence and safety justifications</li>
<li>Support specification qualification and procurement of components, working collaboratively with suppliers</li>
<li>Engaging with stakeholders across the cross-functional project team</li>
<li>
Driving engineering governance through peer reviews and design reviews
 
</li>
</ul>
Your skills and experiences:
Essential:
<ul>
<li>Experience in the design of hydraulic systems – ideally in complex, safety-critical environments (e.g. maritime, aerospace, defence, nuclear, oil &amp; gas and sub-sea)</li>
<li>Familiarity with systems and equipment involving; hydraulic power units (HPUs), variable frequency dives (VFDs), control cabinets, pumps, electric motors, hydraulic actuators, hydro-static transmissions and fluid mechanics.</li>
<li>Proven capability in system lifecycle delivery – from concept through to commissioning</li>
<li>Demonstrated leadership – either through technical direction, mentoring, or project ownership</li>
<li>Chartered engineer or working towards professional accreditation</li>
</ul>
Desirable:
<ul>
<li>Knowledge of platform-level constraints such as noise, shock, or survivability</li>
<li>Previous engagement with suppliers or stakeholders on hydraulic systems (inclusion of hydraulic control logic is desirable, e.g. Variable Frequency Drive solutions)</li>
</ul>

The Hydraulics team:
As a Lead Mechanical Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in the design and development of submarine hydraulic and actuation systems. This includes system-level design, technical leadership, supplier engagement, and the opportunity to steer design architecture across a major submarine programme. We offer relocation support packages across all Submarines roles, subject to meeting eligibility criteria.
