Job Title: Lead Mechanical Engineer – Hydraulics

Salary: Up to £60,000
What you’ll be doing:
<ul>
<li>Lead the design of hydraulic systems, sub-systems and equipment for the next generation Royal Navy submarines</li>
<li>Undertake functional design activities, modelling and analysis</li>
<li>Produce design documentation, Verification &amp; Validation evidence and safety justifications</li>
<li>Support specification qualification and procurement of components, working collaboratively with suppliers</li>
<li>Engaging with stakeholders across the cross-functional project team</li>
<li>
Driving engineering governance through peer reviews and design reviews
 
</li>
</ul>
Your skills and experiences:
Essential:
<ul>
<li>Experience in the design of hydraulic systems – ideally in complex, safety-critical environments (e.g. maritime, aerospace, defence, nuclear, oil &amp; gas and sub-sea)</li>
<li>Familiarity with systems and equipment involving; hydraulic power units (HPUs), variable frequency dives (VFDs), control cabinets, pumps, electric motors, hydraulic actuators, hydro-static transmissions and fluid mechanics.</li>
<li>Proven capability in system lifecycle delivery – from concept through to commissioning</li>
<li>Demonstrated leadership – either through technical direction, mentoring, or project ownership</li>
<li>Chartered engineer or working towards professional accreditation</li>
</ul>
Desirable:
<ul>
<li>Knowledge of platform-level constraints such as noise, shock, or survivability</li>
<li>Previous engagement with suppliers or stakeholders on hydraulic systems (inclusion of hydraulic control logic is desirable, e.g. Variable Frequency Drive solutions)</li>
</ul>

The Hydraulics team:
As a Lead Mechanical Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in the design and development of submarine hydraulic and actuation systems. This includes system-level design, technical leadership, supplier engagement, and the opportunity to steer design architecture across a major submarine programme. We offer relocation support packages across all Submarines roles, subject to meeting eligibility criteria.

Job Title: Electrical Commissioning Systems Engineer
Location: Portsmouth Naval Base – Onsite only
Salary: Up to £45,998 (dependent on skills and experience)
What you’ll be doing:
<ul>
<li>Maintenance, commissioning, defect diagnosis and rectification on Electrical High-voltage/Low-voltage Systems</li>
<li>Apply depth and breadth of knowledge relating to Electrical High-voltage/Low-voltage systems in order to resolve the most complex challenges, issues and faults associated with commissioning, operation, and performance of systems</li>
<li>Present designated trials and commissioning activities</li>
<li>Operate Safe Systems of Work that comply with the company SHE procedures at all times</li>
<li>Provide mentorship and technical guidance to less experienced Engineers</li>
<li>Provide information and technical advice to assist in the compilation of estimates, programs and work packages</li>
</ul>
Your skills and experiences:
<ul>
<li>Deep knowledge and experience of Electrical Low-voltage systems and what influences their performance</li>
<li>Ability to work with a high degree of technical autonomy and provide advice and guidance to other technical staff</li>
<li>Ability to engage with customers and authorities in writing, by telephone or face to face to discuss technical issues and problems</li>
<li>Minimum NVQ/HNC in Electrical Engineering</li>
<li>Experience in High-voltage systems would be advantageous</li>
</ul>

The Electrical Systems Team:
Conducting Electrical HV &amp; LV Systems commissioning, operation, maintenance, and defect rectification activities on board Royal Navy Queen Elizabeth Class (QEC) Aircraft Carriers, Type 45 (T45) Destroyers, Type 23 (T23) Frigates, HUNT class and any contracted tasking.
