Job Title: Senior Engineer – Electrical Engineering (Control &amp; Instrumentation)
Location: Barrow-in-Furness – Hybrid (2 days onsite per fortnight dependent on business needs)

What you’ll be doing:
<ul>
<li>Develop and manage requirements and acceptance criteria specific to a system or product and/or across a system of systems, platform or programme</li>
<li>Understand the contractual and performance requirements for various systems, and support the definition and associated acceptance criteria and events through design, build, integration, installation and commissioning activities</li>
<li>Produce documentation required to support the design review process, including: diagrams; technical specifications; supporting calculations; design evidence and justifications</li>
<li>Review relevant supplier documentation, technical manuals, electrical schematics, general arrangements, Interface specification and ensure it is captured and recorded appropriately</li>
<li>Ensure design proving evidence is comprehensive, captured within the requirements management tools and has been endorsed by the appropriate level of authority</li>
<li>Ensure compliance against contractual requirements and that work is undertaken in accordance with company, safety, environmental, contractual and local business processes, standards, procedures and documentation</li>
<li>Undertake design reviews and presentations to customers</li>
<li>Provide technical support to integrated performance and acceptance activities, including acceptance of equipment from suppliers through to system acceptance by the customer</li>
<li>Provide support to the Certificate of Design activities appropriate to the discipline and articulate and present complex technical argument clearly, logically and simply</li>
<li>Deliver technical input and engineering solutions in support of build activities, defect resolution and change management</li>
</ul>
 
Your skills and experiences:
<ul>
<li>BEng (Hons) / MEng or equivalent</li>
<li>Working towards professional registration</li>
<li>Technical report writing skills</li>
<li>Demonstrable experience of engineering lifecycle</li>
<li>Knowledge and experience in defence standards whilst not essential would be an advantage</li>
<li>System calculations, modelling and analysis</li>
<li>Understanding of at least one of the following areas:
<ul>
<li>Instrumentation and control system theory including PID control,</li>
<li>Electrical circuits design, EMC precautions and power supply characteristics</li>
<li>Safety Integrity Levels and BS EN 61508 or 61511</li>
<li>Control panel detail design</li>
<li>Fieldbus technology (Profibus/Profinet)</li>

The Centralised Control and Instrumentation Team:
An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Senior Engineer -Electrical Engineering (Control and Instrumentation) working within the Centralised Control and Instrumentation Team. This role will be working on the SSNA program and the next generation submarine design.
The Senior Engineer shall provide support to the Principal Engineers and/or external specialists during development, analysis, integration and verification of platform control and instrumentation systems. In this role you will be involved in leading analysis and the production of technical reports and team deliverables, such as managing and maturing operator control console design to meet defined design criteria and programme demands

What you’ll be doing:
<ul>
<li>Support to the Transversal Engineering Lead Engineers, Consultants and senior Consultants for the development of robust and coherent engineering strategies and delivery plans.</li>
<li>Act as Line Manager for PMS Transversal Core Employees and Contingent (Agency) Personnel. Mentor and lead a team of engineers, including task management, skill development, and performance monitoring. Foster a collaborative and productive work environment, promoting continuous learning and improvement</li>
<li>Responsible for coordination with Project Management to expedite Transversal related Functional Design Process (FDP) activities and deliverables.</li>
<li>Support an integrated approach to the delivery of transversal requirements into the PMS C&amp;I Delivery organisation</li>
<li>Coordinate Transversal specialist working groups i.e. Safety, Operability, Product Security, Through Life Support.</li>
<li>Support and coordinate activities associated with design, integration, demonstration and verification of Alerts Management functionality across engineering teams and facilities, developing Technical Department Instructions in support of core processes.</li>

Your skills and experiences:
<ul>
<li>Degree in relevant STEM subject or relevant Industry Experience</li>
<li>Requires a solid and comprehensive understanding of a number of engineering disciplines. Ability to discuss and understand context and implications of technical issues across a number of engineering disciplines.</li>
<li>Holds Chartered Engineer Status with an appropriate institution such as INCOSE, IET or IMechE.</li>
<li>Awareness of the importance of Product Safety &amp; Product Security to the success of the Dreadnought Enterprise</li>
<li>Some experience of functional modelling of complex systems and Model Based Systems Engineering.</li>

The Engineering Manager is responsible for the Management and Coordination of PMS C&amp;I Transversal Engineering activities to include Operability/Operations, Product Safety, Product Security &amp; Information Assurance, Through Life Support.
Reporting to the Principal Engineering Manager, the role supports the planning, integration and monitoring of engineering activities and associated transversal process execution across multiple engineering delivery teams at multiple levels of system and software design. This will include coordinating the demonstration of the integrated PMS alerts management functional design and HCI/HMI solutions and to ensure process adherence.

Salary: £41,000 – £49,000 (Commensurate with skills and experience)
What you’ll be doing:
<ul>
<li>Assist the Power and Distribution Manager to ensure that all systems under their ownership are fully compliant with all Nuclear Safety Functional Requirements (NSFRs)</li>
<li>Ensure compliance with SIL (Safety Integrity Level) classifications for allocated PBSs (Product Breakdown Structure). Where a non-compliance exists, ensure that an ALARP (As Low As Reasonability Practicable) statement is produced and approved by the Approving Authority and INA (Independent Nuclear Assurance).</li>
<li>Engage with stakeholders and as required host/attend UK/US technical forums conducting a transfer of information across the NSRP (Nuclear Steam Raising Plant) and ensuring that the TA (Technical Authority) merge joint LfE (Learning from Experience) into the EPS (Electrical Power System) design</li>
<li>Responsible for ensuring that Dreadnought is designed in accordance with the End User Requirements as laid down by the Defence Nuclear Organisation</li>
<li>Undertake build surveillance activities on the platform as agreed with the Joint Build Assurance working group, Principle Naval Overseer and ESO (Engineering System Owner)</li>
<li>Provide technical reviews and technical author compliance statements on all systems under the electrical power teams ownership.</li>
<li>This is a varied role in which the incumbent will have the ability to travel to other supplier sites.</li>
<li>There are organised upskilling opportunities which are provided every year to the team.</li>
</ul>
