Job title: Associate Systems Engineer

Salary: Circa £35,000 depending on skills and experience

What you’ll be doing:

Contribute to the elaboration and agreement of system requirements understanding the change in system capability against an established design baseline

Support the development of design specifications under guidance and carry out design activities in line with specifications and all quality and technical standards

Participate in developing, maintaining and improving engineering processes and procedures in assigned areas in response to technical developments and operational need

Carry out technical analyses and investigations, including evaluation and selection of technical options, and prepare reports with suggested recommendations to support the design of improvements

Your skills and experiences:
Essential:
<ul>
<li>
Degree qualified or equivalent, in a technology, engineering or science related discipline
</li>
<li>
To have some knowledge &amp; ability to grow skills in one or more of the following systems engineering disciplines: Requirements Analysis &amp; Management, System Design, Human Factors, Performance Analysis, System Acceptance, Configuration Management, Safety (e.g. Functional Failure &amp; Fault Tree Analysis) and Security
</li>
<li>
Proficient in using the Microsoft Office Suite
</li>
</ul>
Desirable:
<ul>
<li>
Experience within a Systems Engineering environment
</li>
<li>
Experience using DOORS requirements tool / DXL scripting
</li>
<li>
Experience within a Naval Combat Systems development environment

The SMCS team:
As a Systems Engineer, you will provide Systems engineering support for the Submarine Command System (SMCS) projects/programmes. The SMCS provides situation awareness (via Tactical Picture Compilation) and Weapons Management capability for all submarines in the Royal Navy flotilla including the existing Astute and Vanguard Class submarines and future platform class Dreadnought.
In our ‘Systems’ team the work encompasses system design, requirements &amp; acceptance management and other general systems engineering considerations such as Security, Safety, Performance, Human Factors, Availability &amp; Reliability.

What you’ll be doing:

<li>Understanding our customers’ complex needs and collaborating to develop, validate and manage requirements at multiple levels</li>
<li>Developing complex system architectures and sub-systems using a Model Based Systems Engineering approach</li>
<li>Integration, analysis and test of real time systems containing multiple technical disciplines such as electronic, mechanical, optical and software sub-systems</li>
<li>Taking accountability for collaborative technical work package execution and associated outcomes</li>
<li>Providing guidance, coaching and nurturing talent in other engineers</li>
<li>Verifying that customer needs are satisfied</li>

Essential
<ul>
<li>Proven experience developing systems in relevant product markets and/or domains, such as control systems, real time displays or other safety related systems, containing multiple technical disciplines such as electronics, mechanics, optics and/or software</li>
<li>Proven experience in requirements management, design analyses, modelling and simulation, using tools such as DOORS, Siemens Polarion, Enterprise Architect, MATLAB and/or Simulink and design methodologies such as SysML</li>
<li>A degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant Scientific/Engineering subject (e.g., Systems Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Physics or Mathematics)</li>
</ul>
Desirable
<ul>
<li>Experience in integration, test, and verification of real time and/or safety related systems, with understanding of safety assessment processes including how these processes influence the design</li>
<li>Customer and/or supplier liaison experience for technical aspects, verifying and obtaining agreement that customer needs are satisfied</li>
<li>An understanding of information assurance, cyber security and environmental impact aspects relating to real time embedded engineering products</li>
</ul>
